"But is it enough?" Why leaders need to acknowledge their accomplishments.

October marked three full years that I’ve been in business for myself. I know that doesn’t sound like a big deal, but let me tell you, IT IS.

You know that saying, “An earlier version of you dreamt of the life you’re living now?”

Four years ago — living far away from family, taking my first coaching course, working an entry level job so I could adopt a little I was fostering — this life was my dream.

And now I’m living it.

And, as I start year four, here are some things I’ve learned along the way…

  1. I love coaching WAY more than I thought I would! Truly, if you’re my client, you should know that I look forward to our sessions and literally walk around grinning when I know I’m seeing you later in the day.

It’s such an honour to get to know people deeply, personally, and to be part of their journey. I just love it.

  1. I really miss having colleagues! Oh, my goodness, I miss chatting away with colleagues and working together on things! Someday, a co-working space will be a dream come true, but, for now, my cats get a LOT of attention.

  1. Helping someone succeed is the ultimate privilege. This isn’t really a surprise to me; I loved this in nonprofit work and child protection too.

Coaching is so unique because people might be doing anything - things I don’t understand or have any experience with - but I still get to help them change, grow, and find success.  Equipping you for the work you’re called to is my WHY.

  1. There are lower lows than I ever imagined. I mean, I knew entrepreneurship would be hard…but I sort of thought it would level out after a while.

Nope. It’s really, really hard. Which is why it was so important for me to look back at everything I’ve actually accomplished.

And I’m actually just going to share my list with you. Not because I’m bragging; I’m not. But because I know most of you are walking around feeling like you haven’t done enough, accomplished enough, finished enough, started enough…

That you are somehow not enough.

I know that because that’s how I feel a lot of the time.

I get caught up in the day to day grind and I feel like I’m spinning my wheels and not really making an impact.

But that is not true.

I want to encourage you to try this exercise sometime this week — before we crest into the New Year:

Make a list. What have you accomplished this year? In your personal life, in your home, in your work, in your community…what have you done?

Give yourself time to celebrate the contributions you’ve made! They matter. YOU matter.

And let that gratitude and recognition hold you and encourage you as you step into what comes next.

Here’s my list...

In my personal life, I’ve:

  • Built a family, as a single parent, and created a home for us.

  • Made friends in our new city, and built genuine relationships.

  • Become much less self-critical.

  • Navigated challenges in ways that are consistent with my values.

  • Parented a bright, creative, and hilarious boy.

In my house, I:

  • Had a new roof put on.

  • Put new floors in the basement (due to a flood) and the master bedroom (due to a cat marking…IYKYK) that look great!

  • Ripped out a bed of ivy to reclaim 40’ of yard space.

  • Installed a wall of built-in shelves BY MYSELF!

  • Painted everything…at least once.

In my business, I’ve:

  • Helped dozens of clients develop as leaders.

  • Created and hosted workshops I love.

  • Traveled out of province to run a workshop.

  • Created a social media presence (okay, this one is still in process!).

  • Built a reputation as an excellent presenter in my area.

  • Hosted three cohorts of my The Leaders Circle (next cohort starts in January!)

  • Facilitated strategic planning processes for corporate clients.

  • Led leadership training programs for non-profit organizations.

What’s on your list?

What are you proud of?

Now, enjoy that feeling. Settle into the reality that you are important and worthy and building the life you want.

Happy New Year.

If you’re reading this and thinking, “I know I’ve done a lot, but I still feel behind,” you’re not alone—and it’s not a personal failure. Many leaders lose sight of their own impact because they’re too busy carrying responsibility forward.

I can help with that.

You don’t need to become a different leader—you need room to see yourself more clearly. Coaching creates that space: to acknowledge what you’ve already done, understand the impact you’re having, and decide how you want to lead from here.

If you’re ready to build forward from what’s already working, book a consultation call and let’s explore what support could look like.
